Apple’s RealityPro: Next Big Thing or Just Another Google Glass?
Global shipments of AR/VR devices dropped by 12% in 2022
In recent news, it has been reported that Apple may finally be launching its mixed-reality headset, “RealityPro,” after seven years of development.
According to Bloomberg, the device aims to augment a user’s environment by providing graphic overlays rather than fully immersing them in a virtual world, similar to Meta’s headsets.
Up until fairly recently, Apple had aimed to introduce the headset in January 2023 and ship it later this year. Now the company is aiming to unveil it this spring ahead of the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, I’m told. — Mark Gurman, Bloomberg Editor
The official use cases for the technology are yet to be determined, but possibilities include playing games and hosting virtual work events.
Apple first unveiled its AR ambitions in 2017, with plans to hit the market as early as 2019. However, development snags have kept launches on hold.
